Box ScoreLanghorne, PA - The Highlanders welcomed the Pacers of Marywood University to Langhorne, Saturday afternoon and fell in conference play by a score of 5-0.
Cairn started the match with a disadvantage - due to injury the Highlanders were forced to compete with only 10 players and had no substitutes.
The Highlanders' Alicia Curry registered the first shot in the game but from there the Pacers put on the pressure. Marywood took eight shots before they put the first goal past Mackenzie Paugh in the 23
rd minute.
Just over four minutes later, a second goal was scored with a shot that went over Paugh. The Pacers scored all of their goals in the first half; the final three went on the scoreboard with less than seven minutes to go.
Cairn had their best chance to avoid the shutout early on in the second half. Caitlin Williams took a shot in the 50
th minute that got past Victoria Pezdirtz but it ringed off the post.
Marywood kept the heat on the Cairn defense throughout the second half but Paugh made six saves in between the pipes. In the game, Paugh made 12 saves on 29 shots by the Pacers.
Cairn had two shots on goal by Curry and 10 shots overall from the team. The Highlanders also had 6 corner kicks in the game.
The Highlanders dropped to 3-9-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the CSAC, while the Pacers improved to 4-9-1 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference. The next game for the Highlanders will be on Saturday, Oct. 25, for the NCCAA East Region final in Langhorne, Pa.
