Women's Soccer Drops 4-1 Game To Rosemont

Box Score

Langhorne, PA - Although the Highlanders scored within the first three minutes of the game, the Ravens of Rosemont College pulled away to a 4-1 win on Thursday afternoon.

Cairn's opening goal developed off of the feet of Courtney Novak. Novak split the defense, made it to the end line inside of the 18-yard box and sent a pass to the middle for Alicia Curry. Curry found the back of the net for her fifth goal this season.

The Highlanders kept the pressure on for the next 25 minutes and forced Ravens goalie Jenna Kaiser to make tough saves in front of the net.

However, in the 30th minute the Highlanders gave away a handball foul in their own box. This set up the Ravens for a penalty kick, which they converted and tied the game at 1-1.

Rosemont sent three more shots on goal before the end of the half but Mackenzie Paugh kept the score level.

Quickly into the second half, however, the Highlanders gave up an own goal that put the Ravens in front 2-1. The mishap seemed to put Cairn on their heels for the remainder of the match.

The Ravens took eight shots in the second half to the Highlanders' three and were able to keep possession for long stretches of time. Rosemont went ahead 3-1 just four minutes after the own goal and later added a fourth in the 61st minute.

Cairn had a good chance to get one back in the 82nd minute off of a corner kick taken by Laurisa Wager. Wager's ball found Rachel Clark and her shot was inches away from getting past keeper Andrea Dossantos.

With the loss, Cairn drops to 3-8-1 this season and 2-5-1 in the CSAC. Rosemont improved to 8-4-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play. The Highlanders will next host Marywood University this Saturday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m.
