Falcons Use Late Goals To Beat Highlanders In OT

Box Score

Allentown, PA – Cedar Crest College tied the game at 2-2 with less than two minutes to play and proceeded to win the game in under five minutes in the first overtime 3-2.

The Highlanders held a 2-0 lead going into halftime but could not keep the Falcons off of the board in the second half. Mackenzie Paugh did what she could in front of the net and made 11 saves throughout the game for the Highlanders.

Cairn started the scoring in the five-goal game with an unassisted shot by Alicia Curry in the 20th minute. Just over 11 minutes later, Curry added the Highlanders' second of the game; this time assisted by Courtney Novak.

Cedar Crest was not on the defensive through the first half though, the Falcons took 11 shots and forced Paugh to make 6 saves. That offensive pressure continued into the second half and the Falcons broke through to score in the 79th minute.

Less than ten minutes later, the Falcons found their way through the defense and score the equalizer with under a minute and a half to play in regulation. Novak had a chance to win the game 15 seconds later but the shot sailed over the crossbar.

Both teams had chances early on into the overtime period but Cedar Crests Courtney Long managed to get one past Paugh for the game-winner. The Falcons improved to 4-10-1, while the Highlanders fell to 3-7-1 this season with the result.

The Highlanders will look to get back in the win column when they host Rosemont College this Thursday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m.
