Box Score Langhorne, PA- A last minute rally by the Giants of Keystone College stunned the Cairn Highlanders as they fell by a score of 80-76.
Box Score
An early deficit to a perennial CSAC powerhouse seemed like a familiar story for the Cairn Highlanders, but tonight the Highlanders did their very best to flip the script. Four straight turnovers and an eight point Keystone lead in the first minute of gameplay seemed incredibly disheartening; but the Highlanders illustrated their resiliency by fighting back to tie, and take the lead just minutes later, after five straight points from guard
Kyle Bonner off the bench.
JD Zamroz acted as the piston for Cairn's offensive engine the entire game and he,
Reuben Lacy Omar Askia and
Bonner all combined to stake the Highlanders to a six point lead entering the break. Thirteen first half turnovers from Cairn would prove to be a harbinger of the events that would transpire in the second half.
After the break the Highlanders would continue to stretch their lead, and a
Darnell Clowney three pointer put a thirteen point cushion between the Highlanders and Giants.
Clowney also contributed for the Highlanders by frustrating the CSAC's second leading scorer, Duncan Lunsford, on the defensive end for much of the night. As great players will do though, Lunsford, began to get his points with about seven minutes left in the contest and Keystone slowly began to chip away at the Highlander's lead. The Highlanders came up with countless clutch buckets to fend off Keystone and it seemed they would squeak out a victory; until a back breaking trey and lay up by Lunsford gave Keystone one point lead with :43 seconds left. After a missed Cairn three and foul sent Lunsford to the line the Highlanders were looking at one last shot to extend the game, but an offensive rebound by Keystone's Miles Dargan on Lunsford's second free throw would be the final straw for the Highlanders as Cairn fell 80-76.
Cairn saw enormous production from many different Highlanders tonight and the noteworthy performers were:
JD Zamroz (20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists)
Reuben Lacy (15 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists)
Omar Askia (16 points)
The Highlanders will continue CSAC play on Saturday at Neumann University at 1:00 PM.
