Oakford, PA - The Highlander's women's soccer team were in action on Saturday, September 1 to kick-off their season against Penn St.-Abington at the United German-Hungarian football club.
Box Score
Cairn University was making its season debut while Penn St.-Abington was playing their second game in as many days, having defeated Rosemont College 3-1.
The game was a low scoring, back and forth affair, despite Penn State having the better of the shots category. Senior goalkeeper
Sara Poole (Edison, NJ / Timothy Christian) made 5 saves in the game, including one on a breakaway that kept the game 0-0. However, the Lion's Brittany Palmer found the back of the net in the 53rd minute. Palmer put a nicely placed header in from a cross from Kaitlin Kozole that broke the deadlock.
Once the Lions had the lead, they locked down defensively limiting the Highlanders to only 2 shots in the second half and effectively killed off the game.
