Box Score
Langhorne, PA - In a repeat of a match a fortnight ago, Philadelphia Biblical University took on the Knights of Neumann University.
In a similar story from a few nights ago when the Crimson Eagles took on Marywood, it was a combination of giving the opponent a massive scoring run to break the game open and turnovers. The only difference this time around, the Crimson Eagles actually won the second half.
After 4 minutes, PBU held a 6-4 lead. 9 minutes later, PBU was down 6-22. That's an 18-0 run for Neumann. On Wednesday, the Crimson Eagles gave up a 17-0 run to Marywood. The Crimson Eagles and Knights then traded baskets over the course of the next 5 minutes to bring the score to 19-35. Neumann then closed the half out with an 11-0 run, leading 46-19 going into the break.
PBU committed 13 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes leading to 20 Neumann points. Another key factor in the game, bench points. Neumann was able to rely on 24 points off of the bench in the first half. PBU had 2 points.
The second half would see a turn of fortune for the Crimson Eagles. Eliminating turnovers while forcing them from the Knights, and getting a little more output from the bench saw what looked to be a complete blowout turned around.
Although PBU didn't make a dramatic comeback, they did in fact win the second half by 7 points.
The Crimson Eagles forced 10 Neumann turnovers while committing only 3 themselves. Senior guard
Adam Derus (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township) had 13 second half points after putting up only 2 in the first half. Freshman forward
Seth Heinicke (Ivyland, PA / Calvary Christian) paced the Crimson Eagles for a game-high 18 points and 9 rebounds.
Senior
"Chuck" Kennedy (Philadelphia, PA / Roxborough) contributed a solid 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Neumann's Mark Blount had 18 points while teammates Mike Walukiewicz and Bill Slade each had 13.
After Neumann's initial 18-0 run early in the game pretty much sealed the result, PBU can look at its second half performance that they indeed can hang with the teams from the upper half of the standings if they could only eliminate the mental mistakes and easy baskets for their opponents.
PBU falls to 4-17, 2-13. Neumann improves to 11-11, 8-7.
Next up, PBU will face off against Immaculata University in the Mason Activity Center in Langhorne, PA this Tuesday at 8pm.
