Box Score
For the first 13:15 of wednesday night's game, the Highlanders were in control and leading by as many as 8 points on two separate occassions. However, at the 6:45 mark, the Ravens had their first lead of the night, taking one point, 25-24, lead. The Highlanders and Ravens then proceeded to trade buckets over the next 3:12, with each alternating basket giving each team a 1-point lead. That is until a pair of
Seth Heinicke free-throws followed by a
Barron Lacy dunk gave Cairn a 3-point advantage and riled up the crowd. The older Lacy brother then knocked down another basket to give Cairn a 5-point lead with 1:20 remaining in the half. A Rosemont free-throw slimmed the lead to four, 36-32, just before the teams went into the lockerrooms for halftime.
Coming out of the break, the two teams wrestled for control of the game in the opening six minutes. At that point, a pair of Jashaun Fontanez free-throws gave Rosemont a lead they would not relinquish. The Highlanders stayed within striking distance and were always threatening to retake the lead until the final two minutes when a series of turnovers opened the door for Rosemont to take a 4-point, 65-61, lead and turn it into a 14-point victory, 76-62. The final 2:37 saw the Ravens outscore the Highlanders 11-2, giving them the win although the final score was a bit flattering.
Rosemont's Derrick Carter had a game-high 19 points, followed closely by teammate DeAndre Jordan who finished with 16. Jashaun Fontanez contributed 12 points to the Raven's win.
For the Highlanders, Seth Heinicke completed a double-double with a team-high 16 points and 12 rebounds, while also assisting on 6 baskets. Sophomore
Reuben Lacy had a career-high 11 points and also grabbed 9 rebounds.
Charles Hopkins registered 13 points in the losing effort.
Both teams struggled badly from beyond the 3-point line, making only one apiece. Rosemont finished 1-for-8 while the Highlanders went a statistically better 2-for-15, but it is sure not to impress 2nd year coach Jason Penley.
Cairn slips to 1-5 and 0-3 in conference. Rosemont survives to 5-1 and 1-1 in conference.
This Saturday, the Highlanders travel to Immaculata to face the Mighty Macs. Tip-off is set for 4pm.
