Marywood Tops Cairn 3-1

Holt Anchors Cairn Defense
Langhorne, PA - A spirited defense of their home "turf" by Cairn frustrated a quality Marywood side all day, but eventually the Pacers prevailed 3-1.

Box Score

Cairn put forth a stubborn defense against the Pacers who are undefeated in conference play. Freshman goalie Morgan Swan made a career-high 22 saves on the day, keeping the Pacers from running up the score. Marywood did unleash an astounding 41 shots , but many were from distance and out of frustration. Last season's encounter resulted in an 8-1 win for Marywood, so the Highlanders made a 5-goal improvement.

Naomi Collipp scored Cairn's lone goal, her first goal of the season and second of her career, to pull one back with just over three minutes to play.

Victoria Pezdirtz made 3 saves for Marywood, earning the win. Rachel Lamoreaux led all players with 11 shots, but the Highlanders kept her off the scoresheet. It was Emma Nye who scored the first goal in the 10th minute of play before the Pacers added a second at 21:14. That goal was scored by Erin Doyle. Things remained that way all the way to halftime.

In the second half, Cairn withstood the Marywood onslaught for 35 minutes before conceeding the third goal. Siobhan Blancaflor took a feed from Angela Heydt and netted in the 81st minute, giving Marywood a 3-0 lead.

Collipp would score her goal in the 87th minute to spoil the Marywood shutout. Kathleen Meacham recorded the assist on Collipp's goal for her 2nd assist of the season.

Cairn moves to 2-3 in conference play and 2-8 overall. Marywood improves to 3-0-1 in the CSAC and 3-6-1 overall.

Next up for the Highlanders, a trip to Cedar Crest College on Friday, October 5th. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm. Last year, Cairn triumphed 2-1 over Cedar Crest.
