Mighty Macs Duo Takes Out Cairn

Immaculata, PA - Cairn University's women's soccer team fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Immaculata University on Tuesday night.

Box Score

The Mighty Macs were powered by Bridget Cunningham and Rachel Gannon who unleashed 19 shots between the two of them. In just the 7th minute of play, the duo teamed up to score Immaculata's first goal. Cunningham played in Gannon, who chipped the ball over Cairn's onrushing goalie, Morgan Swan, giving the host an early 1-0 lead.

Cairn's defense played well, allowing only seven more shots in the first half before heading into halftime. Down just 1-0, the Highlanders were definitely still in the contest.

In the second half though, the Mighty Macs would let the shots fly. Immaculata outshot the Highlanders 18-5 in the second period. Morgan Swan did all she could to keep the Highlanders in the fight, making 11 saves on the night and 9 in the second half alone. But it was another early goal that would be Cairn's undoing. In the 53rd minute, Cunningham turned scorer after her shot deflected off of a Cairn defender and into the net.

Cairn took five second half shots in hopes of getting back into the game but the goal never came. Junior Kathleen Meacham paced the Highlanders with 3 shots.

Cairn falls to 4-13 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Cairn's final game of the season will be this Saturday, at 1pm. The team travels to Centenary College for the 2012 season finale.
