Men's Basketball Roll Back the Dial On "80's Night"; Triumph 63-54

Box Score

Langhorne, PA - It was an old fashion victory on "80's Night" for the Crimson Eagles as they defeated Baptist Bible 63-54.

It was aggressive hardnosed defense from Philadelphia Biblical University's Men's Basketball team that helped them to a 31-20 lead at halftime over conference opponent and long-time rival Baptist Bible. It was only a fortnight ago that the Defenders of Baptist Bible seemed to make everything they threw up in the air, shooting 54% for the game and 61% in the second half in their 60-76 on January 7th. Tonight, backed by a vocal and excited crowd, the Crimson Eagles contributed to BBC shooting only 20% in the first half and 36% for the game with their defensive play; a stark contrast from two weeks ago.

BBC's Luke Petersen, star of the first game, went only 3-for-13 tonight. He shot 8-for-12 the first time around. Petersen still managed to score a Defender high 15 points on the back of 9-for-9 shooting from the free-throw line.

Despite the great effort up to halftime, the Crimson Eagles still needed to put the game away and you can never count the other team out in this rivalry.

Although PBU led by as many as 14 halfway through the second half, they couldn't seem to find that killer run. Baptist had dwindled the lead down to 4 points with just over 2 minutes to play. But backed by a raucous crowd and the sound of Europe's "Final Countdown" ringing in everyone's mind, the Crimson Eagles put the game away with a 7-0 run down the stretch. A BBC basket at the buzzer kept the final score within single digits, 63-54.

Senior forward Charles Kennedy (Philadelphia, PA / Roxborough) and freshman Seth "Sizzle" Heinicke (Ivyland, PA / Calvary Christian) each had 15 for the Crimson Eagles to lead PBU. Kennedy also grabbed 11 rebounds and had 2 blocks to help control the paint for the Crimson Eagles.

The Crimson Eagles improve to 4-13, 2-10 while BBC falls to 2-16, 2-9. The teams split the 2011-2012 season series after PBU swept the 2009-2010 season and BBC swept the 2010-2011 edition.

PBU's men will play a double-header with the women this Thursday at Lancaster Bible. Tip-off for the women is 6pm, 8pm for the men.
