PBU Wins Thriller

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA
- The women's soccer team won their first game of the season in dramatic fashion on Saturday.

It took overtime to settle the contest between PBU and SUNY-Cobleskill, but most observers would conclude that it wasn't that close. PBU dominated the possession and had twice as many shots as the visiting Tigers.

The game didn't start exactly how first-year PBU coach, Laura Behnke, would have liked. PBU took the initiative in the first 10 minutes, only to see Cobleskill score on their first shot of the game at 10:32.

The PBU ladies responded well though, keeping their heads up, and continued to dominate proceedings. The breakthrough would not come though until the second half, but come it did. At the 55:24 mark, freshman Sarah Vogel tapped in a cross from a corner kick to score her first collegiate goal. The goal was also PBU's first of the season.

The rest of the 2nd half was spent trying to duplicate the feat in hopes of avoiding the dreaded extra-time. Despite loads of pressure, the goal wouldn't come in regulation.

PBU sophomore Kathleen Meacham recorded 8 shots of her own throughout the match, but it would be one of her passes that would provide the breakthrough. With 34 seconds remaining in the first overtime, sophomore Amara Mills found the back of the net to give the team their first win of the season.

The win also marks the first career win for Coach Behnke. "We were a lot more aggressive and moving to the ball today. We're creating scoring opportunities and getting shots off. I was happy with the number of shots we were able to generate. We've worked hard at that in training and we're going to continue to improve in this area."

PBU outshot SUNY-Cobleskill 22 to 11.

PBU avenges the 1-0 loss last year in Cobleskill, NY.

The women return to action on Sept. 7, at 4pm when they take on NCCAA East Region opponent Valley Forge Christian College.
