LANGHORNE, PA - In the Crimson Eagles home opener for 2011, the Men's Soccer team fell to Berkeley College 2-1 in overtime.

A deflection goal from Berkeley's Matthew Witten with just over two minutes left in the first overtime stanza gave the Knights a hard fought victory over PBU.

PBU came flying out of the blocks and were nearly in the lead after only 2 minutes when Junior forward Seth Mangum cut in from the left only to find his shot come back off the cross bar. Berkeley committed several fouls early on, rattled by the early pressure, logging 5 infractions in the first 7 minutes. One of which was just outside of their own box. Unfortunately, PBU couldn't convert the opportunity, placing the free-kick right into the arms of a grateful Knights keeper, Thomas Frangieh.

Berkeley College opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Freshman Daniel Viecelli rocketed a 35 yard shot that caught Crimson Eagle keeper, Dave Shaffer, off guard.

The Crimson Eagles evened the contest at 1-1 when Sophomore striker, Gary Bruce, corralled a nice feed from Senior Justin Hays in the 37th minute, and calmly finished past the charging Frangieh in net.

The match then became a battle for possession in midfield with both teams looking to hit on the counter, with neither team creating any real cut chances. Berkeley did hold the advantage in shots taken at 13-9, with both keepers managing five saves. None more impressive than Dave Shaffer's 89th minute penalty save on Berkeley's Nuno Santos. With the save, the match went to overtime.

PBU returns to action on Saturday, September 3rd at 3:00pm EST.  The Crimson Eagles will take on the fighting Tigers from SUNY-Cobleskill. In last year's meeting SUNY-Cobleskill came out 3-1 winners. PBU Men's Soccer team will be looking to get pay back for last season's loss. SUNY-Cobleskill are coming off an opening day win against Bard College, 2-0.
