Ravens Shoot the 3-pointer, Evermore

Box Score

ROSEMONT, PA
- Men's Basketball drop a 59-74 decision to Rosemont College.

Once upon a CSAC contest, while I watched a Rosemont three-fest,
Over a many zonal marking, that left the crowd in a racket,
While I watched, nearly booing, suddenly there came a swooshing,
As of someone gently lofting, lofting another three-point basket,
''Tis some shooter,' I muttered, 'lofting another at the PBU basket -
Only this, and nothing more......

.... may have been the opening of Edgar Allen Poe's famous poem if the Colonial States Conference had been around in the mid-1800's.

But on December 7, 2011, in this CSAC contest, the Rosemont Ravens threw up 27 3-pt shots, making 11. PBU attempted only 5, but made 4 of them. At the end of the day, though, there's only one stat that matters and it read Rosemont 74 - PBU 59.

PBU took a different approach to the game, as opposed to the Ravens long-range efforts, and worked it down low, where offensively they held the advantage in points scored in the paint, 34-16.

The Crimson Eagle's Wendell Torres (Erie, PA / East) led all scorers with 20 points and gathered 15 rebounds. Freshman Seth Heinicke (Ivyland, PA / Calvary Christian) and senior guard Adam Derus (Lancaster, PA / Manheim Township)  each had 11 points. Rosemont's Mitch Carsillo led the Ravens with 19 points.

A common theme for both men's and women's basketball teams on the night was some excellent long-range shooting from beyond the three-point arc cancelled out by a continual struggle from the free-throw line. The men, despite shooting 80% from the 3-pointer, only shot 11-of-21 from the free-throw line, 52%.

While it is sometimes hard to pinpoint exactly which statistic or area of the game can lead a team to victory or defeat, an argument could be said of the following stat. The Raven's bench outscored PBU's 38-3. The Crimson Eagles held it to a much closer game until Rosemont began breaking away midway through the first half, around the time bench players start to filter into the game and make their mark. The second half was a similar story, with PBU holding the deficit to around 10 until midway through the second half when Rosemont began stretching the lead to the upper teen's and into the 20's.

In their final game of 2011, the Crimson Eagles will host Centenary College on Saturday, December 10 at 4pm.
