LANGHORNE, PA - The Crimson Eagles move one game below .500 with a win over Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Rosemont College.
PBU came out on top 2-1, thanks to goals from junior Seth Mangum and senior Justin Hays.
The win moves PBU to 5-6 in all competitions and 2-3 in CSAC. The Crimson Eagles currently sit in 5th place in the CSAC. The top six teams qualify for the playoffs. There's still a long ways to go though, with 4 more CSAC matches to play.
The opening minutes of the match were back and forth with both teams looking to take the initiative. As the first half wore on, the Crimson Eagles started to wrestle control of the match and in the 26th minute, freshman Seth Richardson's beauty of a cross found Seth Mangum back post to head home for his first tally of the season. 1-0 to PBU.
PBU would continue to apply the pressure up until halftime but could not find the insurance goal. They would enter the break with a 7 to 5 advantage in shots.
The second half seemed to start the same way as the first, both teams looking to dictate play their way. The upper-hand would fall to PBU as sophomore Gary Bruce would be brought down by Rosemont keeper Nick Hulayew after only 7 minutes. Senior Justin Hays stepped up to slot home his 2nd penalty in as many games. 2-0 to PBU after 53 minutes.
Credit to the Ravens though as they made for an interesting finale. Determined not to go without a fight, Rosemont started flying at the PBU rear-guard creating chance after chance. It would pay off around the 71st minute as Rosemont was awarded a free-kick 45 yards out. The Raven's Ryan Hartzell knocked in a driven ball into the box that seemed to miss everyone's head, catching PBU keeper Dave Shaffer off-guard. In all the confusion, the ball ended up landing inside the six and then bouncing off the gloves of Shaffer and into the top of the net. 2-1 still in PBU's favor with 18 minutes to play.
Despite some nervy moments, PBU steadied themselves down the final stretch and held on for the 2-1 win.
Rosemont would have the advantage in shots in the 2nd half, 16-8, and overall 21-15, but the Crimson Eagles would lead where it counts.
PBU returns to action on Friday, October 7 as they travel 20 minutes away to Bryn Athyn College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4pm.
