SCRANTON, PA – A quick start helped propel the Crimson Eagles to a 17-8 lead against host Marywood University but Thursday evening’s early burst would be short lived during an 83-55 Pacer triumph.
PBU was swarming on the defensive side of the ball during the first 10 minutes of the opening stanza, allowing Marywood to hit just 39.3 percent of their tosses from the field for the period.
The Pacers closed out the final 10 minutes of the opening half, however, on a 27-12 run, helping the group secure a 35-29 halftime edge.
The start of the second period signaled a meltdown for the Crimson Eagles offensively as the visitors managed to net just 12 points throughout the opening 12 minutes of action. Marywood capitalized on PBU’s struggles, bulging their halftime edge to as many as 32 late in the second frame to put the contest out of reach for the Crimson eagles.
The visitors shots just 25.8 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes while the host group enjoyed a 55.9 percent mark down the stretch. The free throw line – normally a strength for PBU – was also a sore spot on the night with the Crimson Eagles connecting on just 13 of 24 (54.3 percent) attempts.
Rookie forward Jeff Bishop paced PBU wit h13 points and a career high 14 rebounds while Claude Chalk added 13 and six, respectively.
The basketball team will get back into game action this weekend during a match-up with Cabrini College. Saturday's contest in the Mason Activity Center is set to start at 4:00 pm.
