Defenders Pull Away in Second Half

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA -
Deadlocked at 37-all during the intermission, the men's basketball team couldn't keep pace with visiting Baptist Bible College down the stretch Saturday evening as the Crimson Eagles ultimately fell by an 82-61 margin.

After trading blow-for-blow with the Defenders during the opening frame, Baptist rode on the coattails of their senior sniper early in the second half as 3-point specialist Tommy Waszaj drilled five triples during the back end of play en route to a game high 29 points.

The Defenders shot a blistering 63 percent from the field in the second half alone and 59 percent overall from the floor for the game to help the group sprint to their second straight CSAC win to open the season.

Despite 15 offensive rebounds from the Crimson Eagles - a figure that led to 18 second chance points - the host group couldn't combat a 30-7 discrepancy in points off of turnovers. BBC's transition game proved to be a big part of the visitor's success on the night as the visitors manufactured 14 transition points in the win.

Freshman forward Jeff Bishop provided a team high 19 points and nine rebounds for PBU and Adam Derus scored in double-figures for the second straight game, finishing with 16 following a four of six effort from downtown. Third year point guard Jeremy Pearson added eight points in 28 minutes of action.

Baptist improves to 3-2 on the year with the win while the Crimson Eagles slip to 0-6.

The basketball team will continue their search for the team's first win of the season on Monday when the group takes on Gwynedd-Mercy College on the road. Game time is 8:00 pm.
