ST. DAVID'S, PA - Facing New Jersey City University in the consolation game of the Nate Ware Invitational Saturday afternoon, the Crimson Eagles fell by an 82-52 margin to the Gothic Knights.
Utilizing their length and athleticism, NJCU hounded PBU on the offensive front, forcing 29 turnovers from the Crimson Eagles - a number that led to a 39-7 edge in points off the TO's for the green and black on the day.
Sprinting out to a 16-0 edge during the opening five minutes of the contest, New Jersey forced PBU into cough-ups on eight of the team's first nine possessions. Relentless with their pressure defense, the Gothic Knights were able to push their edge to 44-23 by the break, utilizing a 51.7 percent shooting clip along the way.
NCJU dominated on the interior throughout the afternoon, churning out 46 points in the paint for the game - compared with just 16 for the Crimson Eagles. The green and black were also able to managed a 22-6 edge in fast break points.
Perhaps the lone bright spot for PBU was their efficiency at the foul line as the group knocked down 17 of 20 attempts from the charity stripe.
Freshman forward Jeff Bishop led PBU with 12 points and 5 boards and Drew Lindow added 10 and 5 while finishing 4 for 4 from the floor. Brett Zamroz chipped in 8 points in 24 minutes of work before fouling out.
Zamroz was named to the all-tournament team following Saturday's events.
The Crimson Eagles drop to 0-3 on the year following Saturday's loss while NJCU moves to 1-1.
The team will take a six day break before returning to the court against Division I foe Delaware State University next Friday. Game time against the Hornets is slated for 7:30 pm in Dover.
