CLARKS SUMMIT, PA - Entering Thursday's heavyweight bout, it had been five years and eight meetings since the Crimson Eagles last came out on top against Baptist Bible College.
Following Thursday's slugfest against the Defenders, the streak is officially snapped.
PBU held on for a 78-66 triumph over their longtime rival, burning the nets by connecting on 60.4 of their field goal attempts for the game - by far a season high mark for the group.
The Crimson Eagles increased a 35-26 halftime advantage by knocking down nearly seventy percent of their attempts during the back end of play, all-while forcing the Defenders into 18 turnovers for the game - a number that PBU fashioned into a 23-10 edge in points off BBC's mistakes for the game.
Following a back-and-forth battle throughout the opening 15 minutes of play, PBU would close out the half on a 13-4 spurt to go up 11. Baptist Bible would at one point close the gap to within five midway through the second stanza, but a gritty performance down the stretch from the visitors would help the group hang on for their second ever CSAC triumph.
PBU would finish the game with a distinct advantage on the interior, accumulating a 40-24 margin in points in the paint for the game. Despite a shaky performance at the charity stripe (11-19) the Crimson Eagles would utilize four players in double figures to escape with the W.
Senior guard Ben Fuller had a career night for the visitors posting 16 points on six of seven shooting from the floor to go with six boards, two steals, and no turnovers. Classmate Willie Miller would add 16 points, three assists, and three steals, and Charles Kennedy would connect for 13 points, six rebounds, three swipes, and three blocks. Brett Zamroz rounded out the double figure scorers, dropping in 10 points for the game.
The Crimson Eagles improve to 4-12 on the season with a 2-8 mark in CSAC play while Baptist slips to 2-13 overall (0-9 CSAC).
The basketball team will return to action on Saturday when the group hosts Rosemont College at 2:30 pm.
