BRYN MAWR, PA - Since joining the Colonial States Athletic Conference a year and a half ago, the men's basketball team had gone winless in 22 tries during the group's quest for their first-ever CSAC triumph.
Finally, during try number 23 Thursday night, the streak was broken.
The Crimson Eagles held on during a seesaw affair, grinding out a 61-49 victory over Rosemont College in a contest that officially removes the group from the winless conference column.
Throughout a game that was back-and-forth until the waning minutes, PBU held on thanks to steady work at the charity stripe down the stretch. Perhaps even more important, however, was the Crimson Eagles' girth on the offensive glass all night (16 for the game), a number that marks their second-best effort on the year.
Despite knocking down just 37.1 percent of their field goad attempts for the game, the visitors made it count from long range, icing five of eight triples from downtown. PBU also managed to corral 50 rebounds for the contest - a number good enough to be a season best for the squad.
Defensively, the Crimson Eagles limited Rosemont to 29.2 percent shooting on the night while holding the Ramblers to just 1 of 20 from the three point line.
Charrles Kennedy had a mammoth outing for the visitors as the junior forward posted 15 points, 18 rebounds, and four blocks in just 27 minutes of work. Second-year guard Bart McCardle added 12 points and five boards, and Willie Miller chipped in with 11 points, a number that includes a three for three effort from deep.
The Crimson Eagles improve to 3-10 (1-6 CSAC) on the year with the win while Rosemont falls to 3-11 (1-7 CSAC).
PBU will return to Langhorne on Saturday for a date with Centenary College in the Mason Activity Center at 4:00 pm.
