Soccer Team Collects First Triumph

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA
- Sometimes a minute is all you really need.

In actuality, a minute and 12 seconds was all Sarah Schenkel needed Saturday afternoon to erase PBU's scoreless season to-date. The women's soccer team - utterly blanked in each of their first two tries - quickly erased the aforementioned stat during Saturday's ballgame, thanks to Schenkel's blast from the left corner of the box just 1:12 into the opening period.

Schenkel's quick effort, coupled with a Kate Henley goal only 12 minutes later, helped pave the way for Saturday's oh-so-sweet 2-0 victory against Valley Forge Christian College Saturday afternoon. It was the type of statement game one might expect from a group that undoubtedly had something to prove heading into Saturday's contest.

Not only did the triumph mark PBU's first of the season, it also signaled a win within East Region competition, an always-significant factor down the stretch.

But perhaps even more importantly, the Crimson Eagles finally saw their offensive attack produce results as ball control, footwork, and overall team chemistry were all a noticeable step better than during the team's previous two outings.

PBU arguably controlled play for the majority of the 90 minutes despite allowing 14 Valley Forge shots for the game. The Crimson Eagles would counter with 26 rips of their own - including several seemingly can't miss opportunities - but failed to register another score outside of the opening 14 minutes.

Statistically, Rachel Brubaker and Samantha Van Camp both charted assists on the day while senior keeper Kristen Lyszczasz generated a productive afternoon in the net stuffing nine shots and allowing no goals to register her first shutout of the season.

The Crimson Eagles move to 1-2 overall while the Patriots drop to 0-2.

PBU will take nearly a week long break from game action but will return to the field next Friday to go up against Rutgers-Newark in New Jersey at 8:00 pm.
