BROOKLYN, NY - Thursday's contest against St. Joseph's Brooklyn University boiled down to one key aspect of the game: rebounding.
The Crimson Eagles, playing in their 2009-10 season opener, dropped a 78-51 decision on the road to the Bears after getting pounded on the glass 52-29 for the game.
St. Joseph's used a distinct size advantage on the interior to punish PBU with 16 offensive rebounds throughout the 40 minute game. Despite 25 turnovers for the host squad, the Crimson Eagles failed to capitalize, hitting just 35 percent of their field goal attempts for the game.
PBU was also hampered by a six for 17 effort from the charity stripe while knocking down just three of 13 treys.
Senior Willie Miller contributed a game high 14 points while collecting four steals on the defensive end and fellow classmate Ben Fuller chipped in with 10 points and eight boards including a two for two effort from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward Luke Taylor added nine points and five swipes in 27 minutes of action.
The Crimson Eagles will look to crack the winning column this Saturday when the group hosts Washington Bible College in the Mason Activity Center. Game time is slated for 5:00 pm.
