Heated Clash Ends in Draw

Box Score

LANGHORNE, PA - After rolling through Baptist Bible College a year ago 7-2, things proved to be a little more difficult this time around for PBU during the duo's most recent tilt.

Saturday's bout with the Defenders instead turned out to be a grudge match reminiscent of the BBC vs. PBU battles of old. In fact, minus the foul category, things couldn't have ended much more even between the two longtime rivals on PBU's homecoming weekend during the 3-3 tie.

As with the final score, statistically speaking, the game was all-but dead even. PBU held a slight advantage in shots for the day (17-15) but Baptist won the battle of corners taken (6-5). Both keepers ended with five saves. Both teams connected on a penalty kick. And both squads scored in come-from-behind fashion when trailing, a trait that ultimately kept the score deadlocked following 110 minutes of taxing play.

The visitors struck first at the 6:28 mark when Joseph Peterson, the leading scorer in the CSAC, drilled home the Defenders' first goal of the game to give the visitors a 1-nil edge.

PBU senior Phil Haas - who's currently on an absolute tear having scored in each of the team's last four games - answered the call just two minutes later as the fourth-year vet pummeled home his team leading seventh goal of the season.

Baptist would respond with another goal at the 15 minute mark to put the Defenders up 2-1, but a semi-controversial foul in the box 11 minutes later would lead to a Justin Hays penalty kick that would once again even things at 2-all.

With things quieting down for the next 50 minutes, it would be senior Jeremy Dunham that would capitalize and give PBU a 3-2 edge after practically dribbling through Baptist's entire back line before firing home his fifth goal of the season.

Playing with a sense of urgency in the final 14 minutes of regulation, Baptist would aptly respond with a semi-breakaway before a takedown in the box would lead to a freebie for the Defenders, an opportunity that sophomore forward Josh Jackson calmly took advantage of by connecting with the game-tying goal.

Both teams had their chances during the combined 20 minutes of OT but neither was able to finish in what marks PBU's second tie of the season.

The Crimson Eagles currently stand at 5-5-2 (1-1-1 CSAC) on the year while Baptist sits at 3-7-1 (0-0-1 CSAC).

After a three-game home stand, PBU will hit the road on Wednesday for a meeting with Gwynedd-Mercy College at 4:00 pm.
