IMMACULATA, PA - On the playoff fringes entering Wednesday's contest, the Crimson Eagles knew they needed a win to have an outside shot at in invitation to the CSAC tournament.
Unfortunately, sitting squarely in their way Wednesday was the top-ranked squad in the conference - Cabrini College - who entered the match-up perfect in CSAC play on the year.
Looking to dethrone the Cavaliers, the Crimson Eagles couldn't complete the unlikely upset, falling 5-0 at Immaculata College to end PBU's glimmer of hope for NCAA postseason competition.
The host squad was able to control the flow of the contest the majority of the 90 minutes, as demonstrated by their somewhat disproportionate advantage in total shots, 31-9, coupled with a 10-0 edge in corners.
Cavalier freshman Tyler Harvey got Cabrini’s scoring binge started by connecting on a strike just 19:24 in to chart his second goal of the season.
Sophomore forward King Saah followed-up with back-to-back goals to push the Cavalier advantage to three scores. Cabrini would net a final goal with less than two minutes left in the half to enter the break with a four score advantage.
With time, opportunity, and their playoff dreams all dwindling, the Crimson Eagles managed just two scoring chances during the back end of play as Cabrini’s Justin McCall would tap home his team leading 10th goal of the year before all was said and done to give the Cavaliers their seventh win in eight tries.
With their regular season complete, PBU will begin first round NCCAA East Region action on Thursday as the second-seeded Crimson Eagles will host third-seeded Valley Forge Christian College (7-8-1) at 3:00 pm, a team they overwhelmed 4-0 earlier in the year.
Should PBU come out on top against the Patriots, the group will play in the NCCAA II East Region Championship on Saturday at a time and location to be determined.
