Langhorne, PA - The first United East match of the season did not go in Cairn's favor as the Highlanders (2-5-5, 0-1 United East) lost at home to Lancaster Bible College (3-6, 1-0 United East) 3-1.
Two quick goals by the Chargers (11', 17') paced the Highlanders in an early 2-0 deficit until sophomore forward Anthony Carabasi (Medford, NJ / Albright) scored in the 29th minute off the assist from Alijah Miller (Monore, NC / Homeschool) to cut the deficit to 2-1. Highlander goalkeeper Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill) saved two more LBC shot attempts heading into the half to keep Cairn within striking distance.
Three shots to tie the game up were unsuccessful, and the Chargers eventually extended the lead to 3-1 with a goal in the 78th minute. A Cairn penalty kick miss kept the Highlanders down 3-1 before the game went final. The box score was relatively even, with the Chargers attempting 13 shots to the Highlander's 12, and Cairn's Jakeway recording seven 6 saves to the Charger's five.
Cairn returns to the Stillman Athletic Complex Tuesday, September 29, at 7pm for a United East Conference match with Penn State-Abington (2-4-3, 1-0).
