Langhorne, PA - Marah Lehman Set the Program Record For Kills in a Match While the Highlanders fell 2-3 to the Seahawks.
Cairn (8-4 / 0-1 United East) got out to a hot start against St. Mary's (8-5 / 1-0 United East) going up 11-3 behind 5 kills by sophomore outside hitter
Marah Lehman (Chambersburg, PA Chambersburg). During this strong start by the Highlanders senior outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD Heritage Academy) also recorded her 500th career kill. The Seahawks rallied to within 2 points at 16-14, but Cairn maintained control and more impressive play from Lehman helped Cairn go up 1-0.
Set 2 saw St. Mary's jump out to a 3-1 advantage until a pair of kills from Lehman swung the game in the Highlanders favor and Cairn went up 5-3. The Seahawks and Highlanders exchanged runs for much of the set, eventually finding themselves tied at 24. St. Mary's scored the next point to go up 25-24, but Cairn responded in a big way, winning 3 straight points to claim the second set.
The third set started out close with Cairn trailing 6-5, but the Seahawks pulled away building a 12-7 lead. The momentum swung back and forth with St. Mary's going up 22-15 and Cairn responding by closing the gap to 23-22, but the Seahawks escaped with a 25-23 win.
In the 4th set Cairn jumped out in front early, going up both 5-1 and eventually 18-10. This was when the Seahawks seized all the momentum,going on a 14-0 run to claim a controlling 24-18 advantage. Cairn scored a pair of points to shrink the margin, but the Seahawks closed out the set.
In set 5 St. Mary's kept their momentum rolling, going up 11-6. From this point on Cairn and the Seahawks alternated points the remainder of the match until St. Mary's claimed the deciding set 15-10. In the 5th set
Marah Lehman recorded her 33rd and final kill which sets a new mark in the record books as the highest single game total in program history.
Cairn returns to action on Wednesday September 30th when they travel to play Notre Dame of Maryland.
