Cairn (9-4 / 1-1 United East) traded blows early with Notre Dame of Maryland (6-8 / 1-1 United East). The Highlanders found themselves ahead 14-13 before using a 4-point run to pad their lead. Later in the set a 3-point streak including a pair of assists by senior setter
Anna Dow (Syracuse, NY Faith Heritage School) closed the set 25-18.
Set 2 saw another close start, including consecutive aces by junior libero
Liliana Magazzu (Reading, PA / Exeter Township), including her 100th career ace. Cairn used another late run, including both an ace and a kill by senior outside hitter
Bridget Dahn (Smithsburg, MD / Heritage Academy) to go up 19-12. Sophomore Outside hitter
Marah Lehman connected for 3 kills late in the set to help the Highlanders go up 2-0.
The 3rd set started in a familiar way, with the 2 teams hanging close to each other early. Cairn pulled away late and used another trio of late kills by Lehman to complete their sweep. During the match Lehman recorded her 500th career kill for the Highlanders.
Cairn returns to action on Saturday October 3rd for a tri-match hosted by Penn State Harrisburg.
