Langhorne, PA - Senior
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) assisted on both Highlander
(2-1-5, 0-0 United East) goals, but Delaware Valley (4-1-2, 0-0 MAC Freedom) scored two goals
of their own to force a 2-2 draw.
Nine minutes into the match, each team had only attempted one shot, but the Aggies struck first
to take an early 1-0 lead. Following the goal, the Cairn offense missed on two more shots before
sophomore
Zane Wheeler (Addison, NY / Addison Central) scored (19') his second goal of the
season to knot the game back up 1-1. The final twenty-five minutes of the period were mostly
played on the defensive side of the field, as the Aggies shot four shots to the Highlanders' 0,
three of which were saved by keeper
Xander Jakeway (Lancaster, CA / Quartz Hill) to maintain
the 1-1 score heading into half.
Cairn would strike first in the second period, as sophomore forward
Elijah Ejiofor (Toulouse,
France / Northampton Community College) recorded his fourth goal on the year to take the 2-1
lead (51'). Four minutes later, Delaware Valley responded with a goal of their own to tie it up 2-2.
Jakeway had two additional saves to keep the score knotted up, but the Highlanders could not
get back on the scoreboard, ending their fourth straight game in a draw.
Jakeway recorded five saves, while the Aggies keeper saved three shots. Delaware Valley had
16 shots to Cairn's 12 (7 and 5, respectively, on goal).
This Saturday's (9/26) Homecoming
game and conference opener against Lancaster Bible College (2-5, 0-0 United East) will kickoff
at 3:30pm inside the Stillman Athletic Complex in Langhorne.
