Gwynedd Valley, PA - Despite outshooting the Griffins 29-7, Cairn (2-1-3, 0-0 United East) was forced into a 1-1 draw by Gwynedd Mercy (1-4-1, 0-0 Atlantic East).
In the first 25 minutes, the Highlanders had 5 shots on goal, but were unable to connect until senior forward Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) punched it in off a header ('25) to give the Highlanders a 1-0 advantage. Fourteen minutes later, a Griffin throw-in led to a goal to knot the game back up at 1-1. Cairn would attempt one more shot on goal before the end of the period, with the Highlander defense holding Gwynedd Mercy to three shot attempts in the period.
In the first ten minutes of the half, Cairn dominated possession and attempted 7 shots on goal to start the second period, but were unable to hit the mark. Freshman Naseen Clark (Philadelphia, PA) recorded two saves for the Highlanders in his first start at keeper. The score held for the remainder of the period and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Highlanders (2-1-3, 0-0 United East) return to the Stillman Athletic Complex to host FDU-Florham (2-0-2, 0-0 MAC Freedom) this Saturday (9/19) at 3pm.
