MVB: Cougars Sweep Highlanders in Second game of Tri-Match

Dallas, PA- Highlanders faced Misericordia in their second match of the Tri-match, falling 3-0.

The first set was all Misericordia (17-12, 4-3 Middle Atlantic) as a quick 6-1 lead quickly turned to 11-3. Junior outside hitter Sam Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea International Christian School Uijeongbu) would get a kill for Cairn (9-21, 4-3 United East) and then team up with freshman opposite Justin Panaia (Jamison, PA / Dock Mennonite) to get a block that would cut Misericordia's lead to 6. This was followed by  relentless control for Misericordia where they stormed to take the set 25-13.

The second set started off a lot closer as every point that Misericordia would score, Poirier and freshman opposite Nehemiah Clark (Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea / Ukarumpa International School) seemed to have an answer. The score would develop into a 10-9 lead for Cairn before the Cougars had a surge, getting 5 straight aces to take the 17-10 lead. After that it was just history as the Cougars closed the set, 25-15.

The Highlanders did not give up though, starting the third set much like the first. Senior setter Josh Adler (Levittown, PA / Neshaminy High School), Clark and Poirier kept the Highlanders in its matching point for point for a while. Ultimately the highlanders efforts fell short as the Cougars took the set 25-18 and the match 3-0.

Poirier led the highlanders in kills with 7 while Adler took the assists category with 13 as well as aces with 2.

The Highlanders will travel on the road on Monday to wrap up the regular season against Saint Elizabeth in Morrisville, NJ at 7pm.
