Myrtle Beach,SC - Highlanders fall short in both legs of double-header.
Game 1:
The first half of the double-header got off to a slow start with 2 scoreless innings to begin the game. In the top of the 3rd freshamn catcher
Noah Steigleman (York, PA / West York Area Highschool) got on base with a lead off single, before advancing to second on a groundball. With 2 outs in the inning sophomore left-fielder
Cameron Burns (Syracuse, NY / Faith Heritage) drove Steigleman home from second with a single to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead. Highlanders' Freshman starting pitcher
Tristan Llanes (Merced, CA / Merced High School) continued to roll through the 3rd inning but ran into trouble in the 4th and 5th inning allowing the Manhattanville offense to string together hits and take a 10-1 advantedge after 5. Cairn's bats were stifled late in the game and failed to push another run accross the plate, the Highlanders fell with a final score of 14-1.
Game 2:
Game 2 saw another impressive start by a Cairn pitcher. This time freshman
Jack Croft (Eastampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley Regional High School) delivered 4 shutout innings before the Manhattanville bats could manage a run. The Highlanders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after junior second-baseman
AJ Ramirez doubled home sophmore outfielder
Stephen Persiani (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA / Capistrano Valley Christian) from second. Manhattanville tied the game in the 5th and took the lead with a pair of runs in the 6th. The Highlanders tied the game in the bottom half of the 6th with an RBI single by junior DH
Christian Spadea (Philadelphia, PA / Pennsbury) followed up by an RBI triple by freshman shortstop
Matthew Urena (Hialeah, FL / Everglades HS). Manhattanville put up a strong performance in the 7th inning, plating 4 runs before holding Cairn scoreless in the bottom half to win the game 7-3.
Cairn will return to action Monday March 9th with a double header against Hilbert with first pitch of game 1 coming at 6 PM.
