Gwynedd Valley, PA - Highlanders drop close affair with Griffins. 

Cairn (1-19 / 0-6 UNITED EAST) jumped out in front early when junior first baseman Christian Spadea (Philadelphia, PA / Pennsbury) singled to left-field driving in a run. Later in the inning junior designated hitter Jay Sariano (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) scored a second Highlander run with a sac fly to the Griffin center-fielder. Cairn tacked on another run in each of the 2nd and 3rd innings to stretch the lead to 4-0. 

The Highlander's Starting pitcher sophomore Cam Burnes delivered 2 strong innings before getting into trouble in the 3rd inning where Gwynedd Mercy (11-10 / 3-3 AEC) scored 7 runs to claim the lead. The Highlanders turned to freshman pitcher Madden Marcks (Schnecksville, PA / Faith Christian Academy) to escape the inning. Cairn struck back with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth drawing to within 1 run of the Griffins. Marcks continued dealing for the Highlanders holding the Griffins scoreless in his 5 innings of work in relief. The next change to the score came in the top of the 8th inning when a single by sophomore outfielder Stephen Persiani (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA Capistrano Valley Christian) gave Cairn a 1 run lead. The Gwynedd Mercy bats finally woke up tying the game in the 8th inning. After the Griffins held Cairn scoreless in the 9th Gwynedd Mercy walked off the game in the 9th.
