Langhorne, PA- Cairn hosted Penn State Abington on Saturday in their home opener, splitting the double header, 1-1.
Game 1:
Penn State Abington(6-2) got off to a hot start with 4 runs scored in the 1st inning before Cairn(1-8) could close out the 3 outs to get their turn at bat. Freshman outfielder Marah Lehman(Chambersburg, PA / Chambersburg) got on base for the Highlanders, later coming around to score after a single by sophomore infielder Korina Feliciano. Penn State extended their lead to 5 after scoring twice in the second inning. Cairn managed to get one back in the 3rd by Lehman after Aerynne Mays hit a double to the outfield. In the 6th inning, Cairn took storm tying up the game 8-8 with runs from Mays, Feliciano, senior infielder Molly Williams(Hammonton, NJ / Pilgrim Academy), freshman outfielder Jessica Tracy(Lincoln Park, NJ), and senior pitcher Sydney Wright(Souderton, PA / Souderton Area). Cairn got the walk off game winning run in the 7th through Mays off a single by Williams. Final score was Cairn 9 - Penn St Abington 8.
Game 2:
Penn State Abington(7-2) took a big and early lead, getting off 5 runs in the first inning and making it 7-0 in the 2nd. Cairn(1-9) were unable to slow them down as the score turned into 10-0 in the 4th inning. The Highlanders found their footing and were able to get one back by Aerynne Mays off a single by Korina Feliciano. The Nittany Lions quickly got 2 more in the 5th before Cairn took one final push and made it 12-4 off runs by freshman pitcher Ava Schneider, Jessica Tracy and senior catcher Myiah Petroro. The game ended with a final score of Cairn 4-Penn State Abington 12.
Petroro had 3 RBIs on the day, Lehman added 3 RBIs while going 3-7 at bat today. Felicino went 5-7 with 2 RBIs.
The Highlanders remain at home, hosting Lehman College on Thursday, March 26th at 12pm and 2pm.
