BSB: Highlanders Trampled By Chargers

Langhorne, PA - Cairn drops a pair of games to LBC.

Game 1:
The Highlanders rolled out Freshman pitcher Tristan Llanes (Merced, CA / Merced High School) as the starting pitcher in game 1 against the Chargers. Cairn (0-11 / 0-2 UNITED EAST) jumped ahead early after Freshman shortstop Matthew Urena (Hialeah, FL / Everglades HS) doubled in a pair of runs and Junior first-baseman Christian Spadea (Philadelphia, PA / Pennsbury) tacked on another to give the Highlanders a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Lancaster Bible (6-4 / 2-0 UNITED EAST) stormed back to claim a 5-3 lead after the 2nd Inning. LBC continued to stretch this lead until they held an 8-3 advantage after the top of the 4th inning. In the bottom half of the frame the Highlanders battled back and cut the lead down to 8-6. The Chargers respond with a 3-run home run to extend the lead. The Highlanders made a small dent into the lead with an RBI single by junior second baseman AJ Ramirez (Manchester, New Jersey / Elmira College). LBC poured it on with 6 runs in the 7th and another 5 in the 8th. The Highlanders rallied late to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the 8th but fell by a score of 22-12.

Game 2:
In game 2 the Highlanders received a strong 5 inning start by freshman pitcher Jack Croft (Eastampton, NJ / Rancocas Valley Regional High School). Lancaster Bible hit the ground running in the second half of the double header hitting a home run in the top of the first. The Highlanders surged in the middle portion of the game building a 4-2 lead in the 3rd inning. LBC bounced back taking a 5-4 lead before Cairn knotted it up in the 5th.The Chargers controlled game from this point tacking on 3 more runs before the game ended after 7 innings because of a lack of light.
