LAX:Highlanders Drop Road Trip to Golden Eagles, 19-7

Patchogue, NY- The Highlanders of Cairn University and the Golden Eagles of St Joseph's faced off on a windy day. The Golden Eagles came out on top in a 19-7 final.

The game started with a face off win by senior midfielder/FOGO Adain Holliday (New York, NY / Urban Assembly Maker Academy). Cairn (0-5, 0-1 United East) started their first possession off hot, as they immediately went for goal with a shot by freshman attackman Ethan Smelcer(Perry Hall, MD / Concordia preparatory school) but it was saved by St Joseph's(2-2). The Golden Eagles took possession and wasted no time getting on the scoreboard to make it a 1-0 game. Holliday proceeded to win his second faceoff of the match to give the highlanders another look, with a quick shot but were unable to find the net. St Joseph's went on a run to make the game 4-0 before the Highlanders got a clear chance on goal and did not waste it, Holliday took the ball to score a solo goal and get the Highlanders on the board to make it 4-1. The final 6 minutes of the quarter was lock-down defense by both sides as we didn't see another goal.

The 2nd quarter was all St Joseph's as they found the net 3 times in the first 5 minutes to take a steady 7-1 lead. A penalty on the Highlanders gave the Golden Eagles a man up opportunity that they converted for a 7 goal lead. The score moved up goal by goal till it was 13-1 at which Smecler picked up the ball and stormed to find the net for the Highlanders second goal of the match. The 2nd quarter ended with the Golden Eagles having a 13-2 lead.

The 3rd quarter was a defensive masterclass as the first goal took 4 minutes for St Joseph's to get and proceeded to continue to knock on Cairn's doorstep for another, but just couldn't get it. Taking another 6 minutes before they could extend their lead to 15-2, then quickly finding it again to make it 16-2. Cairn found the momentum and took storm to get quick back to back goals from freshman attackmen Brenden Adler(Dallas, TX / Homeschool) and Holliday. Cairn pushed for more, keeping a majority of the possession for the rest of the quarter, just pushing to find the net, but St Joseph's defense didn't allow it as the quarter ended 16-4 in the Golden Eagle's favor.

Holliday won the opening face off for the 4th quarter to give the Highlanders the first possession, but were unable to convert the opportunity. St Joseph took possession and went down to score. Both teams' defense said no as the attacks couldn't find a rhythm for either side and it stayed goalless for the next 4 minutes, before Cairn's senior attackman Cole Heffler(Eldersburg, MD / Central Maryland Christian) converted a man up opportunity to make the score 17-5. The Golden Eagles took it right back though and got the next 2 goals in quick succession. Cairn took back the momentum as Holliday took it solo to shoot and get his own rebound to bury it for a goal then immediately turn it around and win the face off to give Heffler a chance to score off an assist by freshman SSDM Brennen Beyer(Washington Crossing, PA). The game ended 19-7 with the win to St Joeseph.

Holliday lead the team in goals with 3 and record 20 ground balls while Heffler netted 2 goals and picked up 2 ground balls. Beyer recorded his first career assist while Adler and Smecler combined for 2 more goals and added to the possession game with 11 ground balls.

The Highlanders head back home to hosts the Panthers of Purchase college on Tuesday the 24th at 7pm.
