MBB: Highlanders Best St. Mary's to Remain Perfect in Conference Play

Langhorne, PA – Men's Basketball tipped off Conference play in 2026 hosting St. Mary's (MD) besting the Seahawks, 90-66.

Cairn (11-4 / 3-0 UNITED EAST) started the game by trading 3-point makes with St. Mary's (5-7 / 1-1 UNITED EAST). The two teams kept the game close early in the first half with neither team taking command of the game. The Highlanders found themselves in a 24-24 tie with the Seahawks. Senior guard Nick Rivera (Doylestown, PA / Central Bucks East) then recorded a steal and fast break lay-up that sparked a 24-9 for the Highlanders to close out the first half. This run by the Highlanders included multiple baskets from graduate guard Chris Hill (Charlotte, NC / St. Augustine's University) and graduate guard Ron Ayers  (Prince George's County, MD / Stevenson University), and was capped off with a 4-point play from their classmate Byron Gaskins (Woodbridge, VA / Carlow).

The second half was more of the same from the Highlanders and they quickly pushed the lead to 20 points fueled by 2 3-pointers from graduate guard Corey Baldwin (Henderson, NC / Averett) who finished the game with 21 points to go along with 11 rebounds. The peak of the Highlander lead was 26 points late in the second half following a made free throw by sophomore guard Andrew DaCosta (Bordentown, NJ / Bordentown Regional). Cairn won with a final score of 90-66.

The Highlanders will continue conference play when they host Penn State Brandywine on Saturday January 10th at 1 PM.
