Cairn (13-5 / 5-1 UNITED EAST) got out to an early lead over Valley Forge (4-11 / 1-5 UNITED EAST) with 5 points from graduate guard
Ron Ayers ( Prince George's County, MD / Stevenson University) propelling Cairn to an early 7-1 lead. The Patriots pushed back and traded baskets with the Highlanders bringing the score to 10-15. Cairn then brought on a barrage of 3-point shooting, knocking down 4 long range shots in a short stretch, kicked off by graduate guard
Corey Baldwin (Henderson, NC / Averett) and capped off by Ayers with his third 3 of the afternoon. This Highlander run pushed the lead 27-13. Graduate guard
Jaylon Simpson scored the next 12 Highlander's points to maintain the Cairn lead and bring the score to 39-24. A late 3 by Baldwin and a small scoring burst from graduate guard
Chris Hill (Charlotte, NC / Saint Augustine's University) brought the Highlanders into the break with a 47-27 advantage.
There was a lid on the basket for the Highlanders coming out of half-time with Cairn not able to get on the board until 16:36 remaining in the half when Baldwin sunk another 3. The Patriots used this opportunity to trim the lead to 14 points. Baskets from Ayers and Hill helped to right the ship and the Highlanders were able to hold off the Valley Forge come back. another Baldwin, 5 points from Simpson and fast break lay-up by Hill pushed the Cairn lead to 21. The Highlanders didn't look back from here and stretched their advantage all the way to 30 points to win the game 87-57.
Cairn will return to action January 21st when they travel to Penn State Abington for a United East Conference match at 5 PM.
