Rosemont, PA – Men's Basketball held off Rosemont after a close game went down to the wire.
Cairn (12-5 / 4-1 UNITED EAST) got another quick start from graduate guard
Corey Baldwin (Henderson, NC / Averett) as he scored a quick two points and recorded a steal which lead to an assist on a 3-point shot from graduate guard
Ron Ayers ( Prince George's County, MD / Stevenson University). Later in the first half Baldwin hit two straight 3's off assists from Ayers to stretch the Highlander lead from 1 to 7 points over Rosemont (2-12 / 1-3 UNITED EAST). Three consecutive Rosemont shots at the rim brought the deficit back to 1. From here the two teams traded baskets for the rest of the half with a made free throw by graduate guard
Jaylon Simpson (Atlanta, GA / Belmont Abbey) giving the Highlanders a 1 point lead entering the break at 34-33.
The second half remained close reaching a score of 47-51 with the Ravens holding a 4 point lead. The Highlanders turned up the intensity here and went on a run off 13 unanswered points. The run was started by yet another long range shot by Baldwin and included scores from Ayers and Simpson before being capped off by a made free throw by graduate guard
Chris Hill (Charlotte, NC / Saint Augustine University). This run created the separation that Cairn needed, never letting the lead slip below 5. Made free throws down the stretch by Ayers and Hill clinched the Cairn win with a final score of 68-61.
The Highlanders continue their conference schedule with a home game against the Patriots of Valley Forge on Saturday January 17th at 1 PM.
