LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Men's Soccer hosted the Knights of Neumann University on Wednesday night ahead of this weekend's kickoff to conference play, dropping the match 5-1.
Neumann (3-2-3) had the upper hand early, firing off five shots in the first twenty minutes of play, connecting with the back of the net in the 20
th minute to take the lead. Junior midfielder
Braden Allen (Dillsburg, PA / Heritage Christian) looked to match three minutes later with the Highlanders' only shot of the half, off target to the right. As the Knights peppered the goal line, they took a 2-0 lead into the break with another goal in the 41
st minute.
Out of the gate in the second, Neumann netted a third goal in the 54
th minute, following up by number four just ten minutes later. Junior forward
Alijah Miller (Monroe, NC / Homeschool) and freshman forward
James Papanikolaou (Cape May, NJ / Atlantic Christian) had open looks later in the half, Miller's being saved and Papanikolaou's hitting the crossbar. Neumann scored again in the with under a minute to play. On Cairn's (1-5-2) final offensive opportunity, the Highlanders would be awarded a free kick about 25 yards out, taken by Allen, where he would find the flying right foot of sophomore midfielder
Emanuel Lazor (Midland Park, NJ / Eastern Christian) for the Highlanders' only goal of the night.
Lazor nets his second goal of the season while Allen secured his first career assist.
Cairn will host Penn College at 1 p.m. on Saturday for their conference opener on Homecoming.
