MEDIA, PA – The Cairn Men's Tennis team was back in action as they secured their first win of the season against Penn St. Brandywine, 5-2.
DOUBLES PLAY
Cairn (1-2 / 1-2 UNITED EAST) got the day started with doubles sweep, as all three doubles teams for the Highlanders came out on top against the Nittany Lions. Starting off with junior
Daniel Stange (Langhorne, PA / Bucks County Tech) and freshman
Matheo Baez (Ibarra, Ecuador / Victoria Bilingual Christian Academy) got the day started with a very competitive doubles match against Brandywine, but the #1 doubles team got the job done and Cairn was able to start off strong, with a 7-5 win from Stange and Baez. The #2 doubles team also impressed with another win to clinch a crucial point for the Highlanders, as junior
Jacob Gossel (Allentown, PA / Covenant Christian) and sophomore
Joshua Nacy (Puebla, Mexico / Michigan Connections Academy) took home the #2 doubles play with a 6-3 win. Finally, sophomore
Kirk Prasch (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy High School) and freshman
Caleb Akundo (Yaounde, Cameroon / American School of Yaounde) joined in on the winning side as well along with getting their first win and helped Cairn complete the sweep in doubles with a dominant score of 6-0.
SINGLES PLAY
Cairn got singles play started off well with Stange taking care of business at the #1 spot, winning against his opponent in a 6-1, 6-2 fashion, getting his first singles win of the season. Baez and Gossel both had extremely close and competitive matchups, just falling short after a tremendous effort for the #2 and #3 singles. Nacy got Cairn back on the board for a crucial win for the good guys going 6-2 in the first set and 6-0 in the second set to give the Highlanders a lead of 3-2. Junior
Evan Ciccone (Eatontown, NJ / Monmouth Regional) had a dominant performance for the #5 singles match as he managed to get his first career win, securing the match win for Cairn with a dominant double bagel, 6-0, 6-0. For the #6 singles match, Prasch delivered another win for Cairn 6-0, 6-1 to close out the evening with a much needed 5-2 Highlander win against the Nittany Lions.
The Highlanders will take on Lancaster Bible College on Saturday in conference play in Lancaster, PA at 1 pm.
