LANDISVILLE, PA – Cairn Men's Tennis traveled to Hempfield Rec Center to take on Lancaster Bible on Monday, losing of a score by 4-3.
DOUBLES PLAY:
Cairn (1-3 / 1-3 UNITED EAST) got the match day started with #1 doubles play as junior
Daniel Stange (Langhorne, PA / Bucks County Technical High School) and freshman
Matheo Baez (Ibarra, Ecuador / Victoria Bilingual Christian Academy) were in a very competitive match as they were able to come out on top with a 7-5 battle against Lancaster Bible (4-10 / 2-3 UNITED EAST). The #2 doubles play was a tough blow for the Highlanders, as junior
Jacob Gossel (Allentown, PA / Covenant Christian) and sophomore
Joshua Nacy (Puebla, Mexico / Michigan Connections Academy) had a tough matchup in the Chargers, falling 6-0. #3 doubles play was a crucial one for the Highlanders, with sophomore
Kirk Prasch (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) and freshman
Caleb Akundo (Yaounde, Cameroon / American School of Yaounde) had a close contest, as at the end they were unable to make the comeback and fell with a score of 6-4.
SINGLES PLAY:
Stange kicked off singles play and gave it all he had, as he fell with a score of 6-0, 6-2. Baez had a competitive match all the way through as he went to a long and hard fought three sets, eventually coming out with the win in a crucial singles win against the Chargers to give him a line of 6-3, 3-6, and 6-3. Gossel had the same thing, having his hands full with a second straight third set this season, as he outworked his opponent at the end, coming out with an energy filled win near the end with a score of 6-3, 4-6, and 6-2. Nacy fought til the very end as well, taking it to a third set tiebreaker, just coming short of a score of 3-6, 6-3, and 6-7, losing the tiebreaker 5-7. Junior
Evan Ciccone (Eatontown, NJ / Monmouth Regional High School) won his second straight singles match in a dramatic fashion, hitting an overhead to secure a crucial fifth game in the second set, and capping it off with a long rallied 6-3 win in the final set. Prasch was on the spotlight towards the end, taking it to a third set as well, but eventually coming up just short towards the end losing 2-6 in the third and final set to give the Chargers the overall win.
The Highlanders look to get back to their winning ways against the St. Mary's Seahawks on Tuesday at home for a 4 pm matchup in United East Conference play.
