SANATOGA, PA – Cairn traveled to Valley Forge on Wednesday, picking up another important conference win against the Patriots, 9-3.
The reliable bat of senior first baseman
Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy HS) got the scoring started with reaching on an error, bringing in a run for the Highlanders to make the lead 1-0. Warr eventually made his way to third and scoring as junior catcher
Zach Bauers (Cooper City, FL / Cooper City) put the ball in play to give the highlanders an early 2-0 lead. Valley Forge (9-19 / 0-8 UNITED EAST) would strike right back in the first with 3 straight runs scored on a few singles
After four scoreless innings, the Highlanders would begin to separate themselves from the Patriots, with sophomore shortstop
Nathan Schurga (Wilmington, DE / Conrad Schools of Science) reaching as senior designated hitter
Tyler Harris (Oxford, PA / Oxford Area) scored. With the bases loaded, Schurga would then score, stealing a base and reaching home on a throwing error to add another run, 4-3. The Highlanders then broke the game open in the seventh with sophomore infielder
Andrew Holt (Sunrise, FL / New College of Florida) hitting a RBI double, bringing Bauers in to score. With the bases loaded again, Schurga added another RBI with a sacrifice fly out to right field before freshman outfielder
Stephen Persiani (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA / Capistrano Valley Christian) came up with an RBI single, bringing in another run. Senior outfielder
Dylan Jackson (Levittown, PA / Chestnut Hill College) also hit a sacrifice fly, giving the Highlanders a commanding 8-3 lead with a 4-run inning.
Cairn (15-10 / 4-3 UNITED EAST) would add one more insurance run in the 8
th, scoring ona wild pitch and making the score 9-3, which would be the final in Sanatoga.
Sophomore righty
Jack Wright (Telford, PA / Souderton) got the win in relief, throwing 5.0 scoreless inning with three strikeouts. Holt led the offense with three hits (3-4) and an RBI.
The Highlanders take on DeSales University on Thursday in Center Valley, PA at 3:30 pm.
