LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn Men's Tennis team took on the Wildcats for a crucial United East Conference play match on Wednesday, falling 6-1.
DOUBLES PLAY
Junior
Daniel Stange (Langhorne, PA / Bucks County Technical High School) and freshman
Matheo Baez (Ibarro, Ecuador / Victoria Bilingual Christian Academy) took on the #1 doubles in the Wildcats, falling 6-0 in a tough matchup. Junior
Jacob Gossel (Allentown, PA / Covenant Christian HS) and sophomore
Joshua Nacy (Puebla, Mexico / Michigan Connections Academy) had a rough go in the #2 doubles play, falling by a score of 6-0. Junior
Evan Ciccone (Eatontown, NJ / Monmouth Regional High School) and freshman
Caleb Akundo (Yaounde, Cameroon / American School of Yaounde) were able to get a hard-earned game on the Wildcats but fell 6-1. The wind was a big factor in the Highlanders doubles losses on Wednesday.
SINGLES PLAY
Stange took on #1 singles per usual and struggled against a very tough assignment in the Wildcat's #1, but managing to earn two games through the 6-2, 6-0 loss. Baez competed til the very end, giving it his all out on the courts against the opposition, going another three sets this week, but running out of energy in the late frame, falling short with a score of 6-3, 6-1 in the second and third sets for the #2 singles spot. Gossel had a tough time in the #3 singles against Penn, falling 6-0, 6-1. Nacy also had a competitive match in the #4 spot, falling short in a three-set tiebreaker, falling short and putting up a great fight against the Wildcats, losing the first set 6-3 and the third set tiebreaker 10-6. Ciccone gave it all he had against the Wildcats, having his first three set experience and it ended up being a tough blow for him, losing the last two sets at 6-3 a piece after winning his first set 6-4. Akundo took the #6 singles spot in the lone win for the Highlanders, notching his first ever career singles win, winning 6-4, 7-6 in his impressive win.
The Highlanders will have their regular season finale on Saturday at home, hosting the Nittany Lions in Penn St. Berks for a 12 pm match at the McCurdy Tennis Facility in the Horne.
