MIDDLETOWN, PA - Cairn Men's Tennis was back in action as they were swept on the road by Penn St. Harrisburg, 7-0.
DOUBLES PLAY
Cairn (0-2 / 0-2 UNITED EAST) got the day started with junior
Daniel Stange (Langhorne, PA / Bucks County Tech) and freshman
Matheo Baez (Ibarra, Ecuador / Victoria Bilingual Christian Academy) for the #1 singles showing heart and toughness, but eventually coming just short of a win, losing 6-3 against a very good doubles duo in Harrisburg. Unfortunately, the #2 and #3 doubles teams had their struggles as well against the Nittany Lions, losing both matches 6-0.
SINGLES PLAY
Stange got the #1 singles play started and had a great start, being down 2-1 in the first set, but eventually Harrisburg got 4 straight points, winning that set 6-2 and the second set 6-1. Baez got #2 singles going and would also have a similar story to Stange, having a good start, but coming short, falling 6-2 / 6-0. Junior
Jacob Gossel (Allentown, PA / Covenant Christian HS) would get #3 singles going and had a rough first set, losing 6-0, but then getting a hard earned 2 points in the second set, eventually losing that one 6-2. Junior
Evan Ciccone (Eatontown, NJ / Monmouth Regional High School) would earn his first points of the season in Harrisburg, showing heart in his #5 singles matchup with Harrisburg, falling 6-1 / 6-1. Lastly, sophomore
Kirk Prasch (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy High School) would make his singles debut, having a tough go in the first, 6-1, but then would put up a strong fight in the second set, coming just short 6-3.
The Highlanders seek to get their first win of the season against the St. Mary's of Maryland Seahawks in conference play for a home match on Saturday at 1 pm in Langhorne, PA.
