LA PLUME, PA – Cairn Softball made the trip to La Plume, PA taking on Keystone, dropping both games against the Giants, 2-10 and 10-15.
GAME ONE
Cairn (2-11 / 0-4 UNITED EAST) got the scoring started with a solo homer by freshman
Riley Curtis (Newark, DE / Odessa), her first collegiate home run, in the first inning with two outs. After good pitching in the first and second, holding Keystone (3-9 / 2-0 UNITED EAST) to no runs until the third, the Giants would then put up 4 unanswered runs in the bottom of the third inning making the score 4-1. In the fourth inning, senior infielder
Julia Bruestle (Abington, PA / Abington) singled to shortstop to get on base and then found her way around the bases with some help from a double by her classmate
Abbi Heacock (Media, PA / Delaware County Christian), getting Bruestle to third and then finding her way home after a groundout to second to make the score 4-2. After that, it was all Giants as they scored 6 more runs to make the final score 10-2.
Curtis was 2-3 with a solo homer in game one along with an RBI.
GAME TWO
Cairn got the second game started off charging on offense with a single through the right-side line by Heacock, bringing Curtis home after a an error by the Giants to make it 1-0. Right after that, freshman first baseman
Korina Feliciano (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill West) would reach on a fielder's choice, bringing Bruestle home and making it 2-0. Senior left fielder
Molly Deshetsky (Olmstedville, NY / Clarks Summit University) singled to right center bringing one more home, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead.
Cairn wasn't done yet, with junior pitcher
Sydney Wright (Souderton, PA / Souderton) reaching first on a throwing error by the Giants, upping the lead to 5 at the end of the first. After a one, two, three inning from the Giants, Heacock wasn't done as she reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second off of another error from Keystone, bringing Bruestle home, driving the lead up to 7 in the second. Quickly after that the Giants scored 11 straight runs, with 10 coming in the third. In the fifth, Bruestle reached on another error to first, advancing Wright to home and cutting the score to 11-8. Heacock would then hit a sac fly following that play bringing Curtis home, but they would not be able to make the late comeback against the Giants, falling 15-10.
Curtis and junior catcher
Myiah Petroro (Long Island, NY / Liberty University Online) both went 3-4 with a double each, Curtis scoring 2 runs.
Cairn will look to get back in the win column with a doubleheader against Penn State Brandywine on Wednesday at the Stillman Softball Diamond in Langhorne, PA for their home opener at 3 and 5 pm.
