LANGHORNE, PA – The Cairn University Men's Tennis team opened their season with a United East Conference play on Friday against Penn State Abington as the Nittany Lions swept the Highlanders 7-0.
DOUBLES PLAY
Junior
Daniel Stange (Langhorne, PA / Bucks County Tech) and freshman
Matheo Baez started the match off as #1 doubles, having a tough defeat, 6-0. Junior
Jacob Gossel (Allentown, PA / Covenant Christian) and sophomore Josh Nacy (Puebla, Mexico / Michigan Connections Academy) played as the #2 in doubles play, being able to get a tough earned point in their matchup, resulting in a 6-1 defeat. Sophomore
Kirk Prasch (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy High School) and freshman
Caleb Akundo (Yaounde, Cameroon / American School of Yaounde) kicked off the season as the #3 doubles and also earned a point in their matchup against the Nittany Lions, also resulting in a 6-1 defeat.
SINGLES PLAY
Stange led off #1 singles play which was hard fought all game but would eventually fall 6-1/6-0. Baez would then play #2 singles match and would also take a tough defeat, being swept 6-0/6-0. Gossel then played #3 singles and would put up a strong fight, taking four points against Abington's #3, but coming short with a final score of 6-1/6-3. Nacy with the #4 singles assignment and junior
Evan Ciccone (Eatontown, NJ / Monmouth Regional High School) with the #5 singles assignment both got shutout 6-0/6-0 but would both put-up hard-fought matches. Akundo played #6 singles and was able to put up three solid points in the first set but came up short falling 6-3/6-0.
Cairn Men's Tennis will take on Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday in Middletown, PA at 3 p.m.
