MIDDLETOWN, PA – Cairn Softball opened conference play on Saturday, heading to Penn St. Harrisburg to begin the northeast portion of their schedule. The Highlanders dropped both games, 9-0 and 13-1, both in five innings.
GAME ONE
The Nittany Lions (8-4 / 2-0 UNITED EAST) ruled the offensive side of the game, scoring two in the first with a four spot on the second and added three more later. Freshman left fielder
Riley Curtis (Newark, DE / Odessa) had the only hit for the Highlanders in game one as they were shut out.
GAME TWO
Junior catcher
Myiah Petroro (Long Island, NY / Liberty University Online Academy) was hit by a pitch to lead off the game, stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball. Senior pitcher
Abbi Heacock (Media, PA / Delaware County Christian) scored Petroro on a single to centerfield. Penn St. Harrisburg answered back in the bottom half, going ahead 4-1 on six hits and an error.
Adding another in the second, the Nittany Lions extended the lead to 13 with eight runs in the bottom of the third on seven hits including three doubles and a triple. Cairn (2-7 / 0-2 UNITED EAST) went down in order in the fourth and fifth as they dropped game two, 13-1.
Petroro and Heacock each had a hit in game two, Petroro's being a double.
Cairn will head to Lancaster Bible College on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader with the Chargers at 3 & 5 p.m.
