MVB: Volleyball Wins Fifth Straight With Sweep of Bryn Athyn

LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Men's Volleyball won their fifth-straight game on Tuesday night after a brief break from action, sweeping Bryn Athyn in a non-conference meeting, 3-0.

Cairn (5-6 / 2-1 UNITED EAST) ran right ahead 5-2 and then 6-3 with a pair of kills by sophomore outside hitter Sam Poirier (Nogyang, South Korea / International Christian School Uijeongbu) to get started. The Lions made early errors before finding their groove and going ahead 10-8. Junior setter Josh Adler (Levittown, PA / Neshaminy) took the serve, lining up an ace as classmate Caleb Cabrera (Wallington, NJ / Wallington) recorded four kills to get the Highlanders back into the lead. From there, key errors by Bryn Athyn (8-15 / 2-2 UNITED EAST) delivered the set to Cairn with graduate outside hitter Noah Ruiz Esparza (Levittown, PA / Berean Academy) securing the set with the final kill.

Poirier and Cabrera opened set two with a kill apiece, leading to an early 10-3 lead. Adler and junior middle David Larbi (Bensalem, PA / Bensalem) teamed up for a block as Adler and Poirier each added a kill for the Highlanders to find themselves ahead 19-10. Freshman defensive specialist Sam Prieto-Cross (Timonium, MD / Loyola Blakefield) recorded his first career kill as Cairn rallied to the finish, 25-16.

Sophomore outside hitter Jesse Stuart (Chattanooga, TN / Chiang Rai International Christian School) led the way in the final set with four kills followed by Larbi who had three. The bench got the job done down the stretch, holding onto the lead the entire set as they kept Bryn Athyn in the rear view mirror. Junior right side Bogdan Mygovych (Feasterville-Trevose, PA / Neshaminy) had the finishing blow with a kill and solo block to win the match in three sets.

Ruiz Esparza finished with a team-high 10 kills, two aces, and a solo block. Poirier was next with nine kills while Larbi had seven with three block assists. Stuart and Cabrera contributed five kills apiece.

The Highlanders have a short turnaround before hosting Wilson Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
