LANGHORNE, PA – Cairn Baseball hosted Muhlenberg on Tuesday for their home opener, winning 7-6 after a late comeback.
 
Muhlenberg (8-7 / CENTENNIAL) came storming out the gates with a couple of singles and some help from walks, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Highlanders were then able to respond quickly, with senior first baseman 
Tyler Warr (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) notching an RBI double along with junior third baseman 
Ben Gagnon (Bethlehem, PA / Northampton CC) hitting a sacrifice fly to narrow the deficit to one run.
 
After the third and fourth innings, Cairn (8-4 / UNITED EAST) found themselves in a hole with the Mules adding one in the third and a pair of runs in the second. Down 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Gagnon singled up the middle, bringing him to second on the throw, scoring Warr and junior catcher 
Zach Bauers (Cooper City, FL / Cooper City) after they got on base from a walk and single, respectively, to cut the lead to 6-4. After a pitching change, sophomore infielder 
Andrew Holt (Sunrise, FL / New College of Florida) tripled to left center bringing Gagnon home as the Highlanders found themselves down only one heading to the sixth.
 
In the sixth, Muhlenberg had another one, two, three top half and the Highlanders led off with freshman left fielder Josh Smeltzer Jr. (Reading, PA / Muhlenberg) reaching first and advancing to second on a throwing error. He then advanced to third on a flyout and senior outfielder 
Will Wikner (Gaithersburg, PA / Shenandoah University) hit a crucial sacrifice fly with one out in the sixth to bring Smeltzer home, tying up the game, 6-6.
 
After going scoreless in the seventh inning, senior outfielder 
Dylan Jackson (Levittown, PA / Chestnut Hill College) hit a go-ahead sac fly to bring in junior outfielder 
Noah Rush (Perkasie, PA / Lehigh Carbon CC) in to score for the lead as junior reliever 
Greg Jessup (Tyler, TX / McKinney Christian) shut the door for the save.
Gagnon led the way with a pair of hits and 3 RBI on the day while Wikner had the game-tying RBI and Jackson the game-winning sacrifice fly. Senior righty 
Ethan Fineman (Langhorne, PA / Neshaminy) was lights out, holding Muhlenberg scoreless through 4.2 innings of relief with a strikeout to pick up the win (2-0).
 
The Highlanders will look to take on Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday in Lancaster for a 3:30 p.m. game at Penn Medicine Park.
