SB: Softball Drops Myrtle Beach Finale Against Penn St. Beaver & Franciscan

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Cairn Softball dropped both games on Thursday to Penn St. Beaver (12-4) and Franciscan (2-0) in their Spring Break finale.

GAME ONE
Cairn (2-5 / UNITED EAST) got the game started off with triple by junior catcher Myiah Petroro (Long Island, NY / Liberty University Online Academy), who eventually scored off a throwing error as senior infielder Julia Bruestle (Abington, PA / Abington) put the ball in play with a bunt. Bruestle eventually scored off another infield error, to make it 2-0 in the top of the first.

Penn State Beaver (2-3 / PSUAC) would then put up 11 straight runs to make the score 11-2 after the fourth. Bruestle singled in the fifth, advancing to second off of a fielding error and bringing Petroro to home after she hit another triple. Freshman utility Riley Curtis (Newark, DE / Odessa) then singled down the left field line, bringing Bruestle home, making the score 11-4. Penn St. Beaver would eventually take the game 12-4.

GAME TWO
Franciscan (1-3 / PAC) got the game off started with scoring one run in the bottom of the first, which would become crucial in a what would then be very close game. The Barons would eventually score another in the bottom of the fifth, making it 2-0.

Cairn would manage five hits as they would be shutout by Franciscan 2-0.

The Highlanders look to get back on track with a doubleheader in conference play against Penn State Harrisburg (1/3 p.m.) on Saturday, March 22nd in Middletown, PA.
