SB: Softball Falls in Evening Games with Coast Guard & Centenary

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Cairn Softball dropped both games on Wednesday to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (11-0) and Centenary (15-0).

GAME ONE
Coast Guard (2-1 / NEWMAC) did all the scoring in game one, leading of with a bases loaded walk in the first and adding three in the second. The Bears would get the game over the mercy rule in the fourth, adding seven runs in the frame.

Senior infielder Julia Bruestle (Abington, PA / Abington) had the lone hit for Cairn (2-2 / UNITED EAST) in the second inning.

GAME TWO
Centenary (1-4 / ATLANTIC EAST) piled on eleven runs in the top of the first on twelve hits and an error, creating a mountain to climb for the Highlanders. The Cyclones added another in the second with a one-out sacrifice fly, one in the third, and two more in the fourth on a pair of singles and a double.

Cairn (2-3 / UNITED EAST) would go down in order until the bottom of the fifth where junior pitcher Sydney Wright (Souderton, PA / Souderton) broke up the perfect game by working a two-out walk. Classmate Molly Williams (Hammonton, NJ / Pilgrim Academy) ruined the no-hitter with an infield single to a converging third baseman and shortstop to put two runners on until Centenary got the third out and won the game 15-0 in five innings.

The Highlanders look to bounce back on Thursday as they conclude their time playing in South Carolina with Penn St. Beaver (9 a.m.) and Franciscan (11 a.m.) at the Central Park fields.
